Virgil Abloh precedes this season with a look from his OFF-WHITE label, showcasing his menswear releases with the titled “Moving Still” lookbook. Reinstating some familiar arrangements from the first look received in July, this time we can take a closer look at the designers deeper intricacies. Virgil takes timeless, essential finds and pieces – leather biker jackets, military overcoats, knit shirts, etc. –and transforms the pieces with Abloh’s hallmark danger striping and the "OFF-WHITE" branding. These pieces in the collection are then contrasted by draping essentials such as black blazers and floral button-ups (new Nebraska design - women's ready-to-wear SS15). All in all, Abloh’s use of color and pattern throughout has come to be part of his a prolific part of his design language itself, reflecting streetwear motifs specifically in the use of bold red and poignant monochrome. Some could say that this was off the back of a season of all-red trainer drops and monochrome stylings...
From reading various forums and comments on blogs and sites such as HighSnobiety and Hypebeast, it is clear to see how the public feel cheated by the designs. the general consensus over the clothes states that Virgil has unfortunately just plastered the name and pattern over streetwear silhouettes and he should return back to only designing womenswear. In my opinion, i like the designs and whole collection, however i completely agree with what the "hypebeasts" are saying. The mediocre bracket is looming over this fall collection as it lacks real design and theme. Maybe thats it, maybe its the lack of fluidity and coherence between the looks and pieces instead of just a look at streetstyle and its culture. i enjoy this style of designs as i am a fan of the new wave of streetstyle and street culture and i therefore can see the influences the likes of OFF-WHITE gets from New Gen DXPEchef and how they get it from top designers like HBA. All i can say, i like a few almost every piece in the whole collection individually but i can't see a future in mens fashion for Virgil Abloh if he rests on the support from Kanye West.
