LC:M - Agi & Sam AW15

Appropriating Fun. Agi & Sam rebuild the innocent joy in design, brick by brick...

After trekking up the playgrounds and classrooms of their old primary schools to question pupils about their favourite clothes and what not, Agi & Sam set out to make a collection that referenced back to the most important part in design... the fun in creativity.

Heading back home to Yorkshire, Agi sat down and had a chat with his mum in which she showed him some drawings of “The Coolman Collection”. The work of a four year old curator that sparked his new interest and curiosity to revisit his childhood. This sent ideas flying as the design duo set out to bring innocence and youth back. Their research took them to primary schools. Interrogating kids and picking at their brains, Agi & Sam learnt the ways of the child as they then helped the pros become masters. The kids ripped apart any pretension that was put to them and helped the design team get back to the essentials: primary colours, zip slider bag pockets and exposed Velcro.

With face-obscuring Lego masks, made by make-up artist Isamaya Ffrench, alongside the pin-point collection emphasising the expressive silhouettes and straight cuts, the collection became accessible for the more innocent of us as well the design enthusiasts among us. Centre-piece of the show being an overcoat that was matched with block primary colours and a print all over like a distorted Rubik cube. The overall consensus over the designs were that modern man silhouettes doesn't define a man and his mind at occasion should hark back to the younger days where they free and content with oversized, colourful clothes, which were put on and taking off with ease when having fun!
